How do you apply?

It only takes a few minutes to complete our online form.

You’ll also have the chance to apply for an HSBC Advance or HSBC Premier account if you’re eligible.

We’ll then contact you to book a short appointment to finalise your application.

What do I need for the application?

Before you start, it’s best to have the following to hand:

  • a valid Identity Card or a passport 
  • if you’ve been living at your current address for less than a year, you’ll need your previous address
  • your employment details
  • your income details
  • Tax Identification Number (TIN) or Country of tax residence

You’ll need to attach a photo or a scan of both sides of your ID Card. The easiest way to do this is to do the application on a mobile device.

If you don’t have a Maltese ID Card you’ll need to upload a photo or scan of your passport as well as a document proving your permanent residential address.

What do I need for the appointment?

Please bring the following original documents to your appointment:

 

Identification document (one of the following)

  • a valid unexpired passport
  • a valid unexpired driving licence
  • a valid unexpired national or other government-issued identity card
  • a valid unexpired residence card

If you don’t have any of the above, please bring an official document containing photographic evidence of your identity. These should be something which is recognised as a legal means of identification by the national law or EU.

Proof of permanent residential address (one of the following)

This may be covered by any of the identification documents listed above. However, if your identification document doesn’t give your permanent residential address, you’ll need to bring one of these instead:

  • a government-issued document containing details of your permanent residential address
  • correspondence from a central or local government authority, department or agency within the last 4 months
  • A utility bill for your permanent residential address issued within the last 4 months
  • in the case of no fixed address being available, we may ask for other documents

 

Confirmation of tax residency

You’ll need your Tax Identification Number(s) and country or countries of tax residency.

 

Purpose of account

You’ll need to prove that you have a genuine interest in opening an account in Malta.

 

We may need other documentation as well (depending on specific circumstances), in which case - we shall inform you.

 

What we will provide (once your application has been processed)

  • A current account 
  • An International debit card
  • Personal Internet Banking & HSBC Mobile Banking (its best you bring your smartphone or tablet to your appointment)
  • Phone Banking

Apply online

New to HSBC

It only takes a few minutes to apply online and become an HSBC customer.

 

This application is only intended for sole accounts. If you want to apply for a joint account, or qualify on a joint criteria under other propositions, namely Advance or Premier, you can ask for an appointment or visit your preferred branch.

Visit your nearest branch and speak to our staff.

 

We recommend that you choose this option only if you’re opening a joint account. If you want to open an account in your name only, we recommend that you apply online.
